Louisiana has everything that you would need for off grid living, plenty of fresh water, a long growing season, and most importantly cheap property prices. In addition to this, the low taxes tend to draw to this state a lot of people who want to live off the grid or to homestead. You can live off the grid in the entire state of Louisiana although there are some areas and counties which are definitely better.
The best places to live off the grid in Louisiana are the ones that are relatively far from the coast. Counties like Claiborne Parish, Caddo Parish, Cameron Parish, East Baton Rouge Parish, Ouachita Parish, and Tensas Parish are excellent for living off the grid due to their unique geographical position and low cost of property.

As a general rule, the best places for living off the grid are in the northern parts, although there are some counties in the southern parts as well which tend to be fairly good for off grid living. Living Off The Grid In Caddo Parish
Caddo Parish is located in the northwestern part of the state, Caddo Parish has everything that you would need for off grid living although the price of property tends to be somewhat higher than in the rest of the state. The population density is relatively high as there are around 240k people living in an area of 937 sq mi, with that being said you will still be able to find suitable land for homesteading and off grid living fairly easily.
Living Off The Grid In Cameron Parish
Cameron Parish is located in the southwestern parts of the state and it is located on the coast. Cameron Parish can be excellent for living off the grid especially if you want to live on the coast. The best part about living off the grid in Cameron Parish is that the population density is extremely low, currently, there are around 7k people living in an area of 1,932 sq mi. East Baton Rouge Parish has the highest population density from the entire state, currently, there are around 440k people living in an area of 471 sq mi. Due to the high population density, the price of land and property is one of the highest in the entire state. The main reason why this is one of the better counties for off grid living is due to its unique geographical position. East Baton Rouge Parish has everything that you need for off grid living, from plenty of freshwater to fertile lands.
Living Off The Grid In Ouachita Parish
Ouachita Parish is located in the northern part of the state, and it has a relatively high population density. Currently, there are around 153k people living in an area of 633 sq mi, which means that the price of the property is somewhat higher than in the southern parts of the state. Due to the high population density, some might think that Ouachita Parish is not ideal for off grid living, far from it as this is one of the better places for off grid living in the northern parts of the state.

Tensas Parish is located in the northeastern part of the state, and this is an excellent place for off grid living especially if you are on a tight budget. The population density is the lowest in the entire state, as there are around 5k people living in an area of 641 sq mi. Due to the low population density, the price of property is one of the lowest in the entire state, and you will have no problem finding suitable land for homesteading and off grid living for extremely cheap.
